We are now supplying and fitting Ossur knee braces.

Knee Osteoarthritis is a very common condition that can cause pain and limit mobility. Total knee replacements are the final step in the treatment process when pain and function become too disabling. There are many other non-surgical options which are often effective enough to prevent the need for a knee replacement. Knee braces are one such option but in the past they have been expensive, bulky and uncomfortable. Ossur now has a line of knee braces for knee osteoarthritis that are comfortable and supported by clinical evidence when combined with an exercise program.

How they work

The Ossur Unloader braces are particularly indicated for knee osteoarthritis where one half of the joint is worn more than the other leading to a deformity or twist in the knee. The braces use a three-point leverage system to gently unload the degenerated half of the knee helping prevent progression of wear and tear. Two studies used the Unloader One brace in conjunction with exercise and education in people with moderate to severe OA (1, 2). Significant reductions in pain, disability and medication use were found over 6 weeks and maintained at 6 months. It is critical that the use of a brace be accompanied with a physiotherapy led exercise program to increase the strength and mobility of the knee.

Cost

The Ossur braces may appear more expensive than other brace options but private health companies are covering most of the cost making them very affordable. The 30 day satisfaction guarantee allows for a no obligation trial period to find the right size and type of brace. Our Physios work closely with the Adelaide Ossur staff to provide support through the entire fitting process. We ensure that every client who receives a brace also receives education and an exercise program to get the best possible outcomes. Please speak to our Physios or check out the Ossur website for more brace types and information.
