Pilates
Clinical pilates classes are a useful adjunct to conventional physiotherapy treatments, with a strong research evidence base supporting injury prevention and rehabilitation. Classes are an hour in length, and are limited to 4-5 participants.
At Burnside Physiotherapy we offer the following:
Individual exercise programs tailored to suit each individual
A variety of mat exercises, often using balls (including swiss, chi and franklin balls) and rollers
Exercises using pilates equipment, including reformers and trapeze tables
Functional exercises to meet the demands of work or sport
Individual exercise programmes progressed as appropriate
Our policy is to see patients wishing to participate in a regular class at least twice for one-on-one instruction in pilates basics and creation of a suitable exercise program, based on client goals.
We aim to improve your trunk control including abdominal and spinal muscular stabilisation. Clients become more aware of maintaining appropriate postures, and avoiding positions that are likely to aggravate their condition. Our small class sizes allow careful supervision and constant feedback, helping individuals to self-correct poor posture, and adopt better positioning in everyday life.
